Small Business Marketing Blog Post – Business Networking to get more Referral’s # 1

by Nathaneal on May 11, 2010

Small Business Speaker Nathaneal Mohr Talks on the very first step for getting more referrals when you are in a business networking group.

Hi, In today’s Small Business Marketing Blog video today you and I are going to discuss the very first step in a 3-part formula for getting referrals for your business using your local networking groups like your local Chamber of Commerce,

Young Professionals, or really any local business networking group that’s going to work specifically for you in regards to getting referrals in using this simple 3-step formula.

We’ve broken these three steps into three separate small business marketing videos so that way it was easy for you to follow me now, apply these strategies to your business, and test for some feedback and increase profit for yourself. The very first step in this formula is actually thinking through something that’s hidden, most people don’t recognize, and I would even go as far as saying that not thinking this through is exactly why most small businesses don’t become successful with referral getting systems.

The second step in this small business marketing system or formula in the second video is a simple way to locate and connect the best kinds of referral partner so that way every step that you take is a building block to further your referral getting success.

The third video and the third step, we’re going to over a simple and easy way for you to influence all those new referral partners that you’re going to be attracting so that way they can’t help but think about you every time they have the opportunity to send a referral your way. My name is Nathaneal Mohr. I am a local marketing consultant and business motivational speaker here in Orlando, Florida.

You know the truth is, between you and I, that you can waste a lot of time just going to all the events with your local business networking groups and shaking everyone’s hand, giving them your “shpeel” and hoping that one day they’re going to give you a referral, because most likely it’s not going to happen, I mean it could, but probably not.

So if it hasn’t worked for you thus far don’t worry about it because it’s not your fault, it’s just a little bit of feedback and feedback is the breakfast of champions. It’s most likely that no one ever taught you a simple question you can ask yourself so that way you can be making better marketing decisions….when it comes to who you should be connecting with and how to approach those people. Although this is a simple question that I’m about to ask you, it’s kind of a long-winded one, so it’s best that you write this down and maybe take with you, think it through, meditate on it a little bit, post it up somewhere so that way it becomes something that you really start to address.

What it’s going to do for you is give you a map towards who you should be connecting with to get referrals for your business specifically, and who you’re going to be wasting your time with really.

So the one single, very simple step you can take today to grow your business would be to list out all the businesses and all the industries…

Think it through; if you have a team, think it through with your team; if you have friends or partners, think it through with them, then put this list aside.

For our next Small Business Marketing video, what we’re going to reveal is to take this information to locate and connect with the best kinds of referral partners within those industries so every action you take becomes a building block for getting more referrals for a lifetime.

Nate! What an awesome thing networking is. I really appreciate this vid blog, because this hits so close to my personal mission which is to connect and equip business people for success. It is a constant challenge to make honest, genuine personal connections with people that will use your service or product and will also send their friends to do the same.

A great thing to do to accomplish this step, which is to identify the ideal networking partners and referral sources, is to use the phone book (as old school as that sounds) yellow pages. Now, I'm only talking about the headers, that is, the classifications. This will serve as a memory jogger so that that you can free-flow out a list of 100- 300 people that you know, and then highlight the very best, most effective individuals to contact first.

We also have an industries list and a memory jogging invitation tool in the BizBuilders Business Networking Groups Leadership Manual which comes included in the New Chapter Start-up Kit, see http://www.BizBuildersUSA.org .

I imagine in the next videos you will address having a REASON to contact these people that you have identified. But let me offer this excellent reason: To let them know about a BizBuilders chapter that you are starting! Even if they do not want to come yet, you have contacted someone with a great reason, something that will help them, and you can simply ask if it is alright to add them to your newsletter, or if you can send them an email or something in the mail and perhaps follow up in a month and see if they have time for lunch or coffee. Mission accomplished.

    Network it!
